Apologies in advance if Kimber's iPod starts playing waaaaay more U2 than usual - November 1st was the day I got my Achtung Baby Super-Deluxe Boxset, sooooo... well, put it this way: The first 1300ish words of today's chunk were written with an early version of "Until the End of the World" on continuous loop. The last 300ish were written with "Oh Berlin" back on endless loop. "Oh Berlin" has had about three or four hourish bouts of constant play in the last three days. It's honestly kind of a miracle Kimber hasn't listened to it yet. (We're probably going to ignore the fact that the story originally took place in like 2007, 2009, somewhere in there. 2011's close enough.)
As Tom's the one who originally helped me sort out the physics I'm mutilating into my plot, I chatted with him earlier about the taking photos within a time-warp thing. We both agree that it should work - since she's been physically transported into that time, anything physically attached to her should be brought there just fine as well. But he suggested there be could be weird side-effects afterwards, which I might play with, I haven't entirely decided.
...actually, he suggested that my MC should die, and the scientists nearby transporting matter would launch an investigation into her death because they found bits of her kidney in with their experiments or something. I protested that I've already killed a completely sweet'n'innocent little boy in this story, I am NOT going to kill off my MC like that.
Which means, I probably should. blahhhhh.
In less story-driven notes: It is REALLY, really weird, to be doing NaNo when it's like 70 degrees outside. This moving from one end of the country to another is really messing with me. Every other year, I've put on my lil crocheted handwarmers as noveling gear, to help get me motivated, like warrior gauntlets or something. This year? I was sitting outside this afternoon, and moved from partial-sun into the shade, because there was too much glare on my laptop screen and I WAS GETTING TOO WARM. wtfh.
...part of me feels like I should keep running with the story tonight, and part of me just thinks I should pass the fuck out before I write something incredible stupid. Tom, the mother-in-law, and I went out to dinner at a local casual burger/bar place, right on the beachfront. Dinner involved a beer for me and a mixed drink for the MiL. On returning home, the husband made everyone a vodka'n'juice. Somehow this led to us joining the MiL upstairs for a few hands of poker (with me, as usual, having to be re-taught the rules, and then losing) and some additional drinks. Followed by espresso. Needless to say, my system is VERY, very confused right now.
But there's a cat attached to my side - and cats are a lovely addition to a month-long noveling spree. I haven't had cats with my NaNos before, and now I have two (inherited from the travel-prone MiL). The fluffy one likes to sprawl across my keyboard. The little one is sprawled alongside my leg right now. Between the two of them, they make great distractions and company.
